New tiki bar opens in NYC tonight, Brooklyn’s Tiki Bar, Brooklyn, NY

Brooklyn’s Tiki BarApparently it’s not only a tree that grows in Brooklyn — Brooklyn’s Tiki Bar celebrates its grand opening tonight in New York City.

There isn’t much information about the drinks on their website (”exotic frozen drinks” is all that’s mentioned), nor are there any interior photos, but the site does have a somewhat controversal “Door Policy” posted. Patrons must have “casual, but neat” attire: no hats, no sneakers, no work boots, athletic gear, or jerseys. They will also be scanned with a metal detector.

Some find the policys outrageous for a “tiki bar,” but it just may be that people’s expectations about how classy a tiki bar should be are unrealistly low. The Trader Vic’s I visited in Washington was very high-end.

It sounds like the dress policy is crafted to keep the “gangsta” wannabes out. Smart move for a tiki bar.

It’s not a bad looking neighborhood bar,
But I wouldnt call it a tiki bar. The only thing Tiki about it is the sign and the Volcano drink. Which i never got to try cause i went there after work to check it out They were blasting rap music so loud we could hear it halfway down 33rd street. It was so loud we left. we couldnt hear each other speak. It was in the afternoon and there were only two other people at the back of the bar.
I’m surprised their neighbor’s put up with the noise.
