Maui Don the Beachcomber closing

Don the Beachcomber restaurant MauiWhat is it with the rash of classic tiki bars meeting the wrecking ball lately? Last year we had the closing of Chicago’s Trader Vic’s (which will live again, fortunately) and now the word is that Don the Beachcomber at the Royal Lahaina in Maui is next.

The resort complex is going through a multi-year renovation that is going to flatten every building on the property except for the main tower.

  1. I was there this spring; they should flatten the tower too; the entire place is a dump! We tried to go to Don the Beachcomber’s for a drink, but the handwritten sign on the door said, “Closed until further notice.”

  2. i was at a hotel down the street from there. good maui bar, quiet, no retarded tourists everywhere. loved it there, the bartender was awesome.
