New Years Eve at Chef Shangri-La, North Riverside, IL

Sunday, December 31st, 2006

Ringing in the new year in proper Tiki style can prove difficult here in the blustery snow-belt, but it’s been made much easier this year thanks to the folks at the Chef Shangri-La in beautiful North Riverside.

The Chef will once again open their wonderful, Witco-filled tropical environs with fine food, delicious drinks and some terrific tunes courtesy of the Cocktail Preachers. The Preachers’ blend of laid-back exotica and surf guitar instrumentals is sure to pair up wonderfully with the delicious mai-tais served at the Chef.

As always, the entertainment is free of charge, and reservations are recommended to procure your seat at what will certainly be one of the best venues for Tiki and Hawaiian enthusiasts to celebrate the end of 2006 and the birth of 2007. The Cocktail Preachers will be performing two sets: one at 8:30, and another at 10:30 taking us through to the countdown at midnight.

The Chef is located at 7930 W. 26th St., North Riverside, IL. For reservations, please call the restaurant at 708-442-7080

So come ditch that parka, break out your best Hawaiian shirt, have some tasty food, some wonderful tropical drinks, enjoy the live music, and welcome the new year with a mighty ALOHA!

Hope to see you there!

They’re coming back and now they have a little brother too — a mini grill for outdoor cooking. The Mr. Rapa Nui mini grill is designed for cooking skewers, but is large enough to hold two New York steaks or four pieces of chicken as well.

$109 for the grill, shipping runs from $22–$27 dollars depending on where in the US you’re located (Alaska/Hawaii and international prices available by quote).

The grills are available for pre-order starting today!

New Disneyland 50th Anniversary tiki-style mugs released

Monday, December 18th, 2006

Disneyland Adventureland mugIntrepid Disneyland goer Tiki Kate spotted this new Adventureland tiki mug on a recent visit.

It turns out that Disney has created a series of five “landmark” mugs from each of Disneyland’s original 5 lands. Photos of some of the other mugs are appearing as they pop up on eBay, but the mugs are available at the parks and through Disney Delivears at non-eBay prices.
