Tiki Farm releases Volcano-shaped coffee mug, sugar & creamer set plus Tiki Tunes mugs

Thursday, November 30th, 2006

December 2006 Tiki Farm mugsIt looks like the elves have been busy at Tiki Farm getting new products ready for the holiday shopping season. Today they are debuting four new products:

  • a volcano-shaped, 19-ounce coffee mug
  • matching volcano-shaped sugar and creamer set with tiki-topped handles
  • a purple “Tiki Tunes” mug
  • a brown “Luau Tunes” mug

The Tiki Tunes mugs were originally going to accompany CDs of themed music, but problems with producing the CDs have caused them to be delayed indefinately. The mugs are good enough for me!

2007 Tropical Paradise Pocket CalendarHere’s a clever organizational idea—a calendar with a pocket on the bottom to collect receipts, bills, and other loose papers associated with the month.

Each page features graphics from tropical fabric patterns yet the layout remains clean and uncluttered. I’m probably going to get one of these myself.

Mai-Kai 2007 calendar features 50 years of vintage photos

Mai-Kai 50th anniversary 2007 calendar

The Mai-Kai restaurant in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, the last remaining grand tiki restaurant in the U.S., is celebrating their 50th anniversary this year. While the establishment traditionally produces a yearly calendar featuring photos of the dancers and cocktail waitresses, this year they’ve decided to go through the archives to find vintage photos and advertising to grace the top fold.

Hardcore tiki culture fans may argue as to which is more tantalizing: the exotic beauty or the long-retired Mystery Drink bowl.

Hawaiian Time 2007 vintage illustration calendar

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

Hawiian Time 2007 calendarSince the start of the new year is only about a month away, it’s probably a good time to start getting organized.

Here’s one option to get started: the Hawaiian Time 2007 calendar from calendars.com. This 12-month calendar features incredibly cool vintage flat color illustrations that look like mid-century animators got loose in the islands and went nuts. Even if you’re not in the market for a calendar, take a look at the back side to see what all the illustrations look like – it’s very inspiring.

11.75 x 11.75 inch wall calendar. $12.95

Mister Tiki Mai Tai Lounge, San Diego, CA

Monday, November 27th, 2006

Mister Tiki Mai Tai LoungeMister Tiki Mai Tai Lounge serves up tiki drinks and food in San Diego’s fashionable Gaslight district.

The bar features a wide variety of modern takes on classic tiki drinks all with top shelf liquors (finally, somebody who understands the quality of the liquor makes the drink) plus four kinds of Mai Tais, and group drinks for parties of 2–4. The food menu is extensive, with sushi, pu pus, dim sum, and entrees ranging from $3.50–$21.

This looks like a fun place to go with a group of people.

Tiki King designed Surf Fluke ukulele

Tuesday, November 21st, 2006

Tiki King Surf FlukeArtist and performer Tiki King has designed another Fluke ukulele for The Magic Fluke Company, and it’s a beauty. The “Surf” Fluke features a walnut neck and bridge on a natural body with a surfboard-like stripe design. Inside the stripe is a pattern of primitive figures holding a Fluke, a wonderful, self-referential joke.

The instrument comes standard with a rosewood fretboard and is available in concert and tenor scales. A gig bag is included, and pickups are optional.

The stock concert model is $279, add $20 for the tenor.
